Education

Clive believes in the adage that knowledge is a summation of both formal and informal experiences. He therefore considers his education and training from three perspectives, technical, commercial and experiential. His foundational years focused on his technical skills, whereas his later roles drove the development of his commercial skills. Clive's interactions and exposure to the people he met and engaged with was the catalyst behind his experiential growth as a leader and strategist, and this is the "X factor" that differentiates him from his peers.

His education and technical training can be summarised as follows:

Technical

  • Bachelor of Science (majoring in Physics) at Wits University - stopped during 2nd year as a result of limited career prospects.

  • Microsoft Certified Professional at Workgroups Institute;

  • Certificates in COBOL, C++ and Visual Basic programming at Workgroups Institute;

  • ITIL Service Management Foundation training at CSMG Management Consulting;

Commercial

  • Certified Director® of the Institute of Directors of South Africa;

  • Masters in Business Administration (MBA) at Wits Business School;

  • Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) at UNISA;

  • Management Development Program (MDP) at GIBS Business School;

  • Certificate in Project Management at Thinking Dimensions;

  • Diploma in Business Administration and Project Management at Damelin College;

  • Advanced Diploma in Business Administration and Project Management at the University of Pretoria;

  • Miller Heiman sales training, SPIN Selling programme and Scotwork Advancing Negotiations Skills training to enhance sales capability;

  • Export Credit Financing Masterclass managed by the World Bank;

Experiential

Clive thought he'd share one such example where interaction with a fellow MBA alumni yielded insights into the African continent that he had taken for granted and fostered the belief that Africa was an impoverished backward society. The gentleman in question was his good friend Victor Kgomoeswana who published a book titled "Africa is open for business". His passion and insight in conjunction with Clive's extensive travels on the African continent has radically changed his view of the African continent and is a more enlighted person because of this. Victor's TED talk snippet on YouTube is linked in the book link.
