In 2008, Clive ventured back into the entrepreneurial arena and started SPEL Plant Hire with the objective of targeting select customers in the construction industry to provide rental services of light construction equipment. With no experience in the construction industry at the time, within 6 years of the company’s existence and under his leadership,  the small team drove the business to achieve measurable success as a start-up enterprise through participation in numerous small business councils.

Knowledge acquired: The nuances of establishing a new business startup, marketing and operational management. Strategy formulation and implementation to grow the business without the need for external funding. Supply chain management and the development of suppliers as an extension of internal funding sources. Entrenching a performance-based company culture in a gender-balanced team. Becoming creative when resources are in short supply.
